Planner's Comments

Unfortunately the planner's computer has not recovered from the cup of tea which got spilt over it, so although the planner did have comments he has not been able to communicate them!

Organiser's Comments

Congratulations to the new Midlands Night Champions and thank you for coming to Rowney Warren to run in these Champs, originally scheduled for February and postponed to November because of the extensive felling of which you were only too well aware. Many thanks to Steve Hinshelwood the planner who battled on through felling and man-high bracken and produced the courses which you so appreciated, to Steve Hardy, formerly WAOC, now SMOC who undertook the extensive re-mapping and above all to Peter Leverington, our unflappable controller who kept faith in us and brought us all through to the finish.

Particular thanks to the early finishers who were so good-natured about being unable to download and who returned later to pick up their splits and many thanks to Jon Marsden for sorting out the SI software when it had a funny turn.

I could not have organised this event without the help of a small but dedicated band of WAOC members: Peter and Sue Woods, Bruce and Maria Marshall and Dil Wetherill. Sue, having decided that she did not like night orienteering, ran the soup stall which is always a feature of WAOC night events and which you all supported so enthusiastically - our Junior Fund is looking healthier as a result of your generosity.

Final thanks to the planner's friend, Ben Nasatyr who helped hang the controls, then ran the start, did a course himself and then was preparing to move the controls for the Sunday District event as we were packing up.

Controller's Comments

Steve's excellent courses made full use of Rowney's complex footpath system and distinct contours. Runners who maintained contact with the map and were able to run at competitive night speed were rewarded for their skills. A start and finish close to the car park together with a download tent with hot food run by WAOC members ably led by Ursula, created a social atmosphere to be enjoyed by those brave enough to run in this well organised event.
