Sorry about the various problems encountered with missing or stolen controls as well as the start and being missing for early runners.

Controls that were stolen or were missing for earlier runners have been made optional (but legs not removed).

If you did not punch the start, I have synthesised you a time based on your average position for the remaining legs and then picking a time for the first leg that would place you about in the same position on that leg.

If you did not punch the finish, I have synthesised a time a minute before you downloaded.

Directions / Parking

Directions: Leave the M25 at Junction 26, signed Epping (A121). After approx 1.5 miles at roundabout, take fourth exit signed A104 towards Woodford. After 2 miles turn right at next roundabout (Robin Hood), take third right after approx 800m, continue for approx 500m then park at Pillow Mounds (Ringo 36111) IG10 4AF. What 3 words: feels.crate.tolls. O’ signed from Wake Arms (Miller & Carter) roundabout.

From south, A104 through Epping Forest to Robin Hood roundabout, then as above. 

Parking: Pillow Mounds (Ringo 36111) IG10 4AF. DO NOT park in the small car park next to the King’s Oak pub.


Course Information

Blue 6.0 km TBC controls
Green 4 0 km TBC controls
Yellow 2.2 km 10 controls


It is suggested that those choosing to run Blue opt for a start time before 6.45pm
in order to finish by 8.30pm.


Starts and Finish: Near to parking. Start 200m, taped from public toilets; Finish 100m

Terrain and map details

Epping Forest North West, 1:10,000, as used for Mitre Dec 2023. 

Undulating open beech forest with some denser areas of thicket and holly. Blue
and Green will provide a test of a variety of orienteering techniques in fast open
runnable woodland. 

SI on all courses. SIAC activated.

Dog restrictions

Dogs to be kept under control. Respect other users of the Forest.

Toilets: Public toilets adjacent to the Kings Oak pub.
