Directions / Parking

If you are planning to arrive by coach you must contact the organiser in advance.

By car

Access to Bromehill and Santon Warren is from the A1065 Mundford Road about 1.5km north of Brandon railway station at TL787880. The area is to the east of this road. Access is via a forest track which will be signposted. This will be a left turn if arriving from the north and a right turn if arriving from the south. The A1065 is a fast busy road, so please take great care when arriving at the event, particularly if you are arriving from the south and need to make a right turn.

Nearest postcodes are  IP27 0PL, which is about 1.5km to the south of the entrance to the parking and IP27 ORB which is about 1km to the north of the entrance. You must approach the event from the A1065 road. If your Satnav tells you that you can access the area from the east, ignore it.

Parking will be linear along the forest track. The assembly area is 800m east of the track entrance. Runners on some courses may cross this track.  Please be vigilant and drive slowly. When parking please follow the directions given by the marshals. Note that you may have a walk of up to 800m from your car to the Assembly Area.

East Anglian Championships

Only current British Orienteering members of clubs affiliated to EAOA are eligible to become East Anglian Orienteering Champions. Members from other regions are very welcome to take part in the event but will not be eligible for the Championship trophies.

For the Championships, male competitors may ONLY run up to the "Men's Open" class. Female Competitors may ONLY run up to the "Women's Open" class. So, for example, a M65 who runs the Blue course rather than Short Blue will not be eligible for the Championships but, if they run the Brown they will be eligible for the Open Championship. Apart from the Open classes, all other Championship classes are restricted to one age class only.

Juniors who are competing for the Championships must not be accompanied nor are they are not allowed to be shadowed.

Registration and Start Times

Registration (entry on the day), Enquiries and Dibber Hire will be open from 10 am to 12 noon.

If you have pre-entered and have requested a hire dibber, please collect it from enquiries before heading to the start. Remember to return the dibber when you download.

Starts will operate from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

It's a punching start, but Start times have been allocated to ensure that we maintain a minimum 4 minute gap between runners from the same club on the same course - a requirement for the EA Champs. Please try to arrive at the start in time for your allocated slot. Some courses have a high density of start allocations - be prepared to have to wait for a suitable slot if you miss your start time!

We have allocated start times for all courses, but these are notional on White as EA Champs rules do not apply, and we can be quite flexible on Yellow and Orange where the 4 minute rule does apply but there are lots of free slots available.

Courses will close at 14:00pm.

Terrain and map details

The area is Bromehill and Santon Warren. The map is based on the survey by the late John Ward in 2012, with recent re-survey by Phil Halford (SUFFOC) in 2022. Maps are printed on waterproof paper. The scale is 1:10,000. Longer courses are printed on A3, shorter courses on A4.

Terrain is mostly runnable forest with contrasting blocks of less runnable wood and open.  Bromehill is actually a hill, so unusually for a Thetford area there are real, genuine contours on the map(!) as well as areas with complex contour detail.

Facilities

Registration, Enquiries, Download, and portable toilets will be located at the Assembly Area. (Please use the portable toilets we have provided). A café with public toilets is situated just off the A1065 near the Barton Mills roundabout.

The Start is 100m from the Assembly Area, The Finish is 200m from the Assembly Area.
