Terrain and map details
Hertford is an ancient county town situated at the confluence of four rivers and with a major A road running through the middle.
The town centre has the usual array of pedestrianised areas, backstreets and passageways. The town centre is flat but to the North there is a steep hill which the longest courses will encounter.
There are almost 20 river crossings on the map providing some interesting route choices. The A road is OOB and is crossed using 5 pedestrian underpasses which provides even more route choice possibilities.
The start and finish are on Hartham Common where the junior courses spend most of their time.
The event will use a brand new 1:4000 map in A4 and A3 sizes.
Note 1:
There will be market stalls in the centre of the town during the event. The area is marked with a screen of purple dots on the map, as shown in the final details.
Most courses have been designed so that optimal routes do not pass through this area.
The area is not Out of Bounds but competitors are required to walk through the area to avoid any accidental collisions with shoppers and other pedestrians. Anyone seen running through the area will be disqualified.
Please respect this in order to maintain Orienteering's good reputation which allows these events to take place.
Note 2:
There is permissive pedestrian access through a historic housing area to the east of the main town centre. Ignore signs at some entrances stating there is no public right of way.  (see final details for map snippet).

Facilities:
Toilets are available at registration/download site at 1st Hertford Scout Hut.
No water or drinks will be provided- please bring your own drinks.
Grateful thanks go to EHDC for allowing the event to go ahead, and to all at WAOC/HH who have helped in putting on this event.
