We hope you enjoyed your runs at Maulden today and also hope that you are drying out nicely (one or two finishers did mention that it was slightly damp underfoot out on the courses).

Summary

A full colour-coded event with courses up to Brown.

On-line pre-entries are open at Fabian4 until 8th February 2026. Schools and other groups are welcome - see notes under Entries.

Entries on the day will be available for all courses, subject to map availability.

IMPORTANT: Forestry England have reported cases of anti-social behaviour at Maulden in and around the lay-by. The FE has requested that parents accompany their juniors to/from the competition area which is 200m from the lay-by.

FE also requested that junior courses are patrolled by volunteers with High-viz jackets. If juniors encounter any issues they are to approach the individuals in a high-viz jacket to ask for assistance.

Directions / Parking

SatNav: All vehicles MUST approach the event from the south, from the roundabout near Clophill -  Postcode MK45 4AD.   The Postcode for the parking area itself is MK45 3UZ. Grid reference: TL074393

Maulden Wood is situated by the A6 south of Bedford. The event will be signed from the roundabout at the A507/A6 Junction near Clophill. ALL TRAFFIC MUST ENTER THE EVENT FROM THE SOUTH on the A6. DO NOT make a right turn from the A6, even if your SatNav tells you to. Please follow directions below to approach (you must approach from the South).

  • If approaching the area on the A507 or A6 Northbound, proceed North on the A6 at the roundabout at the A507/A6 junction near Clophill. Travel north for about 1700m. Turn left into the parking area signed Maulden Wood.
  • If heading to the event southbound on the A6, proceed to the roundabout at the A507 and turn 180 degrees to enter the event from the South as above.

Parking: We have been given permission by the Greensands Trust to use their Woodland Centre car park which is accessed from within the layby on the A6. Car park entrance is at TL074393. In the lay-by area, please follow signs and marshall's directions to the Greensands Trust parking area. Please do NOT park in the layby itself unless the Woodland Centre car park becomes full. The Woodlands Centre car park is for Orienteer's cars only, outside of this parking on the layby is shared with the public. We request that competitors share cars where possible.

If you are planning to bring a minibus, coach or other large vehicle, please contact the organiser in advance.

Entry on the day will be available for all courses, subject to map availability.

Helper discounts are available for WAOC and other EAOA club members, set at 50% of the entry fee. Please contact entries@waoc.org.uk for the helper discount code before entering.

SI Card Hire

(loss of a hire SI card will incur a charge of £30, and £65 for a SIAC).

If you are bringing a school party, or other group such as guides, scouts or ATC cadets, please inform the organiser in advance using the Group Entry Form. Please provide this information by 8th February. This will avoid long delays at registration and ensure we have enough maps for everyone.

Registration and Start Times

Registration will be open for enquiries, entry on the day and hire dibber collection from 10 am to 12 noon.

Starts from: 10.30am until 12.30pm. Start times will not be pre-allocated. Punching start.

Courses close at 2:00 pm.

Competitors new to orienteering or requiring assistance should enquire at registration.

Terrain and map details

Maulden Wood  is varied contoured woodland on the Greensands Ridge.

Map scale 1:10,000.  Maps will be pre-printed with courses, and printed on waterproof paper.

Dog restrictions

Dogs are permitted as long as kept under control

Trophy Recall
If you currently hold a WAOC trophy, please can you bring it to the event and hand it in at registration.

Facilities

Toilets will be available at the Woodland Centre adjacent to parking.
